When the singularity burst forth its first flame from the void, the primordial matter—the most fundamental essence of the cosmos—underwent a metamorphosis from chaos to order through billions of years of gravitational dance. Perhaps it wandered in the collisions of dark matter, was reborn in the inferno of supernovae, each transformation a redefinition of existence’s own meaning—the universe deconstructs nothingness through the transmutation of matter, while the artist, with raw materials and fervor, seeks the infinite source.
The co-standard universe is an ever-expanding interplay of being and nothingness, a fusion and dispersion of dynamism and stillness. His works are not merely the final manifestations but direct expressions of vitality in the act of creation. They crystallize the emotions, forces, and kinetic trajectories of their making, allowing us to glimpse, through the canvas, the fervent passion of the creative moment—or perhaps a whisper-like flow and tremor—a spiritual odyssey through the vast cosmos.
In fusing metallic bismuth with diverse materials, the artist becomes wholly immersed in the instantaneous flux, witnessing matter dissolve, flow, collide, and solidify. He touches the subtle undulations of temperature in the air, the sudden clarity of form as it freezes in rapid cooling, the infinite radiance of color that only emerges in stillness—shifting with every angle of observation, birthing new experiences before beginning anew.
When humanity first cast its gaze upon the abyssal heavens, the stars ceased to be mere celestial bodies and became metaphors for exploration. When our eyes are drawn to the play of light, metal is no longer just an accumulation of atoms but a wave guiding our motion—a glimmer spanning light-years, both an inquiry into eternity and a response to the void.

《In Tribute to the Moon》 by Hei Tie
“She always makes me wonder for whom I long.
Her light is so gentle,
and her direction so steadfast.
What can I do for her?
To honor her, to create a tribute for the moon.”

《BU JU》
I am the wing that was broken off,
I am the soul that was left behind.
I can’t tell you that I am right,
And you certainly shouldn’t say that I am wrong.

Li Gongbiao
Li Gongbiao was born in Luoyang, Henan Province in 1984 and engaged in stone sculpture from 1999 to 2007. Since 2008, he has studied iron ware. His works are re created based on traditional culture and combined with modern people's life, so that the traditional culture has a new continuation. Using abstraction, aesthetics, and iron art as tools to explore such things as perception, objectivity, and identity of objects, he is one of the contemporary artists with the spirit of craftsmanship.
