The French philosopher Foucault, in his book ‘Madness and Civilisation’, has proposed that in the ancient times, the communication between human beings and the so-called gods was usually in the form of sacrifices, pilgrimages or offerings. In the new century, with the rapid development of science and technology today, people's understanding of God is no longer limited to a single, from the Chinese nation, the so-called idiom ‘closed eyes to raise the spirit’ is more refined is a kind of spirit, personal qualities as well as the future of the God of the power, a kind of internalised by the people of God. Nurturing the spirit is the adjustment and expectation of our life.
In today's economic and communication stagnation caused by the passive epidemic, we happen to have a respite from the rapid development of information-based life, and closing our eyes is also the optimal time for reflection and recuperation.

Artist Liang Tingwei

Artist Liang Tingwei's works have always been dedicated to mapping human society through animal groups, and the classical monkey series created at the beginning of the epidemic is also a retrospective of the global epidemic in the medieval period, as well as an extension of the current globalisation issues. Now that the global fight against the epidemic has been successful, the artist has launched a new series of Closed Eyes in this exhibition, which pays tribute to this important moment for mankind and at the same time gives more progress and transcends the painting language of the classic Contrasting Eyes series. The direct contrast of the images also makes the works more vivid and evocative. His monkeys always give us a deeper meaning and reflection than the simple animal form, and release and express the conceptual nature of contemporary art using a simple traditional painting medium.
