Asian Resonance
This exhibition features eleven artists from five representative countries in East Asia, South Asia, and North Asia, demonstrating from multiple perspectives the diverse possibilities of contemporary art in Asia parallel to the rest of the world, and calling for a ‘cultural commons’ belonging to Asia.
Contemporary art is faced with a situation where Western and Eastern art, from post-war art to modern contemporary art to pop art, have always been dominated by the West. In fact, the development of Asian art is very rapid and diversified, we can explore how to continue the culture of the East into contemporary art through the reciprocal cultural exchanges of different countries, and produce a relatively independent and autonomous cultural plate with its own characteristics of the East, so as to realise multi-ethnic, multiracial and multi-local connectivity, which is the main theme of this exhibition.
This is the main core of this exhibition.
China has undergone many changes and transformations in its 5,000 years of history, but our cultural attributes have been passed on from ancient times to the present day. We hope that this exhibition can form a bridge of communication through culture, so that more countries and more artists, as well as more viewers, can come together to form a cultural community, which may then become a community of cultural destiny.
Such a cultural communion is not dominated by specific cultures and values, but rather, it is a mutual exchange, which is also the meaning of ‘resonance and harmony’ in terms of culture and region.
Therefore, in this exhibition, we can see the expression of Xuancai and ink as a form of art, in which the artists create their own language by inserting their personal narratives into the cultural system. We can also see the artists exploring their own collective memories and realities, and at the same time forming differentiated narratives through social collectives or visual representations rooted in East Asian cultures.
